The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Doni dos Santos charged in rather forcefully in the 18th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Doni dos Santos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 26 minutes into the game, Roger Martinez cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Rubinho Abreu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 30th minute Ismael Nafarroa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rubinho Abreu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 31 played minutes ADM Taquaras got a freekick which was hit by Reinaldo Ferraz. 32 minutes into the match, ADM Taquaras's goal looked a bit too open when Pastor Fe came free, but Rubinho Abreu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nemesio Handi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Madureira in the 37th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

51 minutes into the match, ADM Taquaras's goalkeeper Rubinho Abreu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Placido Berenguer. With 79 minutes on the clock, Ediberto Varela commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Rubinho Abreu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pastor Fe in the 81st minute. Rubinho Abreu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roger Martinez, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Vende Humo's Carmelo Quirze slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Rubinho Abreu. That made the score 1-2 after 86 minutes of play.
