The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Deportivo Messina's zone, Pieter-Jan Rummens stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Javier Roderigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pieter-Jan Rummens, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Javier Roderigo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pieter-Jan Rummens in the 7th minute of the match. 9 minutes into the game, Leonel Pancho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Deportivo Messina's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Ouagadougou National the free kick. The supporters of FC Ouagadougou National booed when Deportivo Messina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Pancho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pieter-Jan Rummens struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Javier Roderigo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Ouagadougou National. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pieter-Jan Rummens in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Javier Roderigo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When FC Ouagadougou National's Pieter-Jan Rummens in the 23rd minute got a chance for a shot 23rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Moussa Tapsoba scored 1-0 in the 30th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Javier Roderigo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 36 minutes into the match, FC Ouagadougou National's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Vasco came free, but Antonio Claeys reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 45th minute, Issa Bado hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 47 played minutes FC Ouagadougou National got a freekick which was hit by Jacques Lambert. Deportivo Messina made a substitution. Omar Felipo replaced Joel Chap. Jacques Lambert kicked well hit freekick during the 49th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The wind increased when Pieter-Jan Rummens made the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute FC Ouagadougou National were awarded a corner. Issa Bado went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Issa Bado almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Deportivo Messina's Javier Roderigo did a great save. After 56 minutes of play, FC Ouagadougou National's Pieter-Jan Rummens made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Javier Roderigo was left in no man's land by his defense there! 63 minutes into the game, Steffe De Jonge threw the ball into play from the sideline. Deportivo Messina's Paolo Mantzio quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Issa Bado during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 67 played minutes FC Ouagadougou National got a freekick which was hit by Issa Bado. The audience was convinced that Pieter-Jan Rummens's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Javier Roderigo was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. Deportivo Messina's Leonel Pancho managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jeremie Sterkx in the 75 minute of the game. A collision led to Deportivo Messina getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Fabian Rodas hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pieter-Jan Rummens in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Javier Roderigo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Antonio Claeys showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eduardo Araoz, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. In the 98th match minute, FC Ouagadougou National was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeremie Sterkx to maneuver through the defense. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. FC Ouagadougou National were victorious despite being under pressure from Deportivo Messina for much of the match.
