José Vítor Ramos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amílton dos Santos, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jailson de Senna in the 15th minute of play forced Grêmio Prudente's goalkeeper José Vítor Ramos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 17 minutes into the game, Manuel Pinho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Itajaí Football Club's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grêmio Prudente the free kick. Christiano Cearense made an important save on a dangerous shot by Álvaro Travassos in the 26th minute. Christiano Cearense came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Grêmio Prudente's Arlindo Luz. But to his dismay, Arlindo Luz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Christiano Cearense didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Arlindo Luz went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. 44 minutes into the match, Itajaí Football Club's goal looked a bit too open when Cristiano Recife came free, but Christiano Cearense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luís Paulo de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Vítor Ramos having to interfere. In the 48th minute Jailson de Senna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Vítor Ramos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Grêmio Prudente players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Itajaí Football Club were winning 2-3.

The wind increased when Cristiano Recife made the kick off in the second half. If Amílton dos Santos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. Grêmio Prudente's Álvaro Travassos suffered a concussion in the 85th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. When Paulo Mattos fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Itajaí Football Club's protests and gave Paulo Mattos a yellow card for diving instead. Paulo Mattos hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Zé Peres managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio Prudente's supporters rose to their feet, but Zé Peres was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Christiano Cearense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Arlindo Luz took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Christiano Cearense. Christiano Cearense dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 7-3. José Vítor Ramos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Paulo de Castro in the 96th minute of the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the Itajaí Football Club players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Grêmio Prudente.
