In the 18th minute Dani Galiana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Albérico Vilaverde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 20 minutes into the game, Astillero del Guayas's Ulizes Sola nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Albérico Vilaverde made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Javier Landeras had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. SC Braga's Caetano Coutinho got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hakkı Deniz Bedi's late challenge caught a SC Braga's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hakkı Deniz Bedi helped the player get up and apologised. When the match had been going on for 37 minutes, SC Braga's Alexandrino Bessa got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Walter Huarte. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ulizes Sola was the one to do the kick off. With a little luck, SC Braga's Albérico Vilaverde got control of the ball when Ulizes Sola tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ulizes Sola could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Albérico Vilaverde made a huge save. Javier Landeras's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Albérico Vilaverde read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. With a little luck, SC Braga's Albérico Vilaverde got control of the ball when Hakkı Deniz Bedi tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match was over Astillero del Guayas could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than SC Braga throughout the match.
