Karl Frisck made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gabriel Toli in the 7th minute of play. The supporters of Zendraget BK booed when NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dante Quintan didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Zendraget BK getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Egil Eriksson hit a great ball. In the 12th minute, Morgan Boman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Apolo Richie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thor Nordin in the 17th minute of play. Jan Lindell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Apolo Richie having to interfere. 21 minutes into the match, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goal looked a bit too open when Thor Nordin came free, but Apolo Richie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jan Lindell took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Apolo Richie. Apolo Richie dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. If Thor Nordin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 31st match minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reynaldo Sabin to maneuver through the defense. Jan Lindell might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Apolo Richie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jan Lindell ran back to his position shaking his head. If Jan Lindell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 41st minute, Jan Lindell reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Apolo Richie. The goal made the score 2-0. Thor Nordin took the ball and in the 45 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Apolo Richie. Apolo Richie dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gabriel Toli to make the kick off. After 54 minutes, Dante Quintan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS and the Zendraget BK players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 56th match minute, Zendraget BK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Morgan Boman to maneuver through the defense. Apolo Richie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thor Nordin, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. After a defensive mix-up in NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's zone, Jan Lindell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Apolo Richie came out of the goal and Jan Lindell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Albano Asteri charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Albano Asteri the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Albano Asteri got a free kick in the 65th minute. Apolo Richie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thor Nordin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thor Nordin in the 71st minute of play forced NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Apolo Richie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Klas Axelsson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Apolo Richie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. Börje Rudberg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Apolo Richie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Reynaldo Sabin fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's protests and gave Reynaldo Sabin a yellow card for diving instead. In the 86th minute, Reynaldo Sabin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 88 minutes into the match, Zendraget BK's goalkeeper Karl Frisck had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Antonio Mundo. After having played for 90 minutes, Thor Nordin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Zendraget BK's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thor Nordin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 92 minutes of play, Zendraget BK's Thor Nordin made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Apolo Richie was left in no man's land by his defense there! Zendraget BK walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
