Donato Vachon hit a great ball. José Ignacio Rocha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Hondo in the 7th minute of the match. In the 8th match minute, Inter de Chillán was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnaldo Detmer to maneuver through the defense. 18 minutes into the game, Inter de Chillán's Juan Luis Dittborn nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Enrique Lekubegi made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Inter de Chillán's zone, Nicanor Gaufred stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Ignacio Rocha came out of the goal and Nicanor Gaufred tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Inter de Chillán's Juan Luis Dittborn got a free kick in the 30th minute. In the 31st minute, Rafael Hondo made a precise shot to the right of José Ignacio Rocha. Inter de Chillán's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Giuseppe Meazza took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Enrique Lekubegi to make any attempt to save it. Rafael Hondo kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, Inter de Chillán's Enrique Lekubegi threw himself towards the right post 40 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Giuseppe Meazza, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 45th minute, Giuseppe Meazza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Juan Luis Dittborn made a kick off. Enrique Lekubegi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Luis Dittborn, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. After 52 minutes of play, Inter de Chillán's Giuseppe Meazza made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Enrique Lekubegi was left in no man's land by his defense there! Donato Vachon's late challenge caught a Inter de Chillán's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Donato Vachon helped the player get up and apologised. Donato Vachon kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Enrique Lekubegi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Steve Vaid, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Juan Luis Dittborn took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Enrique Lekubegi. Enrique Lekubegi dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donato Vachon in the 64th minute of play forced Inter de Chillán's goalkeeper José Ignacio Rocha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. José Ignacio Rocha made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Hondo in the 68th minute of play. Enrique Lekubegi came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Inter de Chillán's Giuseppe Meazza. But to his dismay, Giuseppe Meazza quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-1. Inter de Chillán made a substitution. Francisco Lacunza replaced Giuseppe Meazza. Juan Luis Alfaro hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Enrique Lekubegi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Steve Vaid in the 76th minute of play. In the 77th match minute, Inter de Chillán was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Steve Vaid to maneuver through the defense. In the 78th minute Nicanor Gaufred shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Ignacio Rocha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 80 minutes of play, Inter de Chillán's Francisco Lacunza made it 6-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Enrique Lekubegi was left in no man's land by his defense there! Enrique Lekubegi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juan Luis Alfaro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th minute, Steve Vaid left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Inter de Chillán fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-1. Juan Luis Alfaro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Enrique Lekubegi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enrique Lekubegi came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Inter de Chillán's Francisco Lacunza. But to his dismay, Francisco Lacunza quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 8-1. In the 95th match minute, Palermo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafael Hondo to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisco Lacunza in the 96th minute of play forced Palermo's goalkeeper Enrique Lekubegi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Palermo's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
