After some fancy dribbling in the 8th minute, Julius-Lasse Eichenauer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Poli Timisoara's supporters rose to their feet, but Julius-Lasse Eichenauer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Elder da Silva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Poli Timisoara booed when Goianésia E.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomasz Poniewaz didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute, Tomasz Poniewaz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Thomas Knoppertz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 17 minutes into the match, Goianésia E.C's goal looked a bit too open when Thomas Knoppertz came free, but Elder da Silva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 18 minutes into the match, Goianésia E.C's goal looked a bit too open when Jens-Uwe Lack came free, but Elder da Silva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 20 minutes into the game, Poli Timisoara's Dominic Haug nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. In the 28th match minute, Goianésia E.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomasz Poniewaz to maneuver through the defense. The Poli Timisoara fans' excitement grew in the 29th match minute when Poli Timisoara's Thomas Knoppertz looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Valdir Neto came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Goianésia E.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valdir Neto couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Poli Timisoara's zone, Mark Faiko stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thomas Schmuck came out of the goal and Mark Faiko tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpected shot in the 36th minute by Julius-Lasse Eichenauer got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Goianésia E.C's Elder da Silva proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save Goianésia E.C from getting a goal against them. Through an outstanding action, after 40 minutes, Elder da Silva successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Elder da Silva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dominic Haug in the 45th minute of the match. Thomas Schmuck showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mark Faiko, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. When Jens-Uwe Lack fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Poli Timisoara's protests and gave Jens-Uwe Lack a yellow card for diving instead. In the 47th match minute, Poli Timisoara was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jens-Uwe Lack to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Thomas Knoppertz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Julius-Lasse Eichenauer left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Poli Timisoara fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Elder da Silva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thomas Knoppertz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 58 minutes, Thomas Knoppertz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Poli Timisoara's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Knoppertz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 60th minute, Jens-Uwe Lack left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. When Thomas Knoppertz came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Poli Timisoara fans jumped to their feet. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julius-Lasse Eichenauer in the 64th minute of play forced Goianésia E.C's goalkeeper Elder da Silva to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jens-Uwe Lack hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. In the 67th minute, Dominic Haug ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Elder da Silva was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. If Thomas Knoppertz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Waldir Cruz during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Waldir Cruz kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. After 84 played minutes Goianésia E.C got a freekick which was hit by Tomasz Poniewaz. Thomas Knoppertz struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Elder da Silva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Poli Timisoara. Thomas Knoppertz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tomasz Poniewaz charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tomasz Poniewaz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 90 played minutes Goianésia E.C got a freekick which was hit by Tomasz Poniewaz. Thomas Knoppertz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Poli Timisoara fully deserved thier win.
