Carlos Germano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erkan Fostiropoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 14 minutes of play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Elmar Assing made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carlos Germano was left in no man's land by his defense there! Carlos Germano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 23rd minute of the match. Carlos Germano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erkan Fostiropoulos, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atlético Atlanta's zone, Erkan Fostiropoulos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Germano came out of the goal and Erkan Fostiropoulos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pedro Rojelio hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Denis Trenker got a free kick in the 31st minute. Club Atlético Atlanta's Carlos Germano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ebbo Böse in the 36th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eustaquio Jaizki in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uwe Ziege prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 38th minute Eustaquio Jaizki shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eustaquio Jaizki took the ball and in the 40 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Uwe Ziege. Uwe Ziege dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. Club Atlético Atlanta's Carlos Germano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 46th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vasco Jackisch in the 47th minute of play forced Club Atlético Atlanta's goalkeeper Carlos Germano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Erkan Fostiropoulos to make the kick off. When the match clock showed 54 minutes, the score became 5-1 when Eustaquio Jaizki sped through Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. After some careless play in the Rot-Weiss-Essen defense, Paolo Caradaro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Uwe Ziege should have stopped the shot. Uwe Ziege showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eustaquio Jaizki in the 64th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eustaquio Jaizki in the 69th minute of play forced Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes had been played when some careless play by Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Remigio Erramu was slow to take the kick. During this time Club Atlético Atlanta's players had a chance to rest. In the 92nd minute, Eustaquio Jaizki ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Uwe Ziege was frozen by the shot and now it was 9-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Club Atlético Atlanta fully deserved thier win.
