Everardo Etor made in the 5th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by VfL Wolfsburg's Jimmie Haeger. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marouane Kiefer got free with Kirill Karamazov in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 42 minutes into the game, Martin Hedlund was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. VfL Wolfsburg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Karamázov the free kick. Martin Hedlund kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Olle Tunander showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jerry Fristedt was the one to do the kick off.
