After 14 played minutes, Club Atlético de Newell's Olly Nethercot shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Valter Klack came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Club Atlético de Newell reached it. With a little luck, Club Atlético de Newell's Matthieu Abelard got control of the ball when Carlinhos Félix tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 27 minutes, Stig Eskilsson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Here Comes the Hammer and the Club Atlético de Newell players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Club Atlético de Newell booed when Here Comes the Hammer was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthieu Abelard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Valter Klack made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Greg Bastow sent off a good shot on target. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Olly Nethercot in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valter Klack prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Matthieu Abelard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robert Christoffersson in the 64th minute of the match. Valter Klack showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Olly Nethercot, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Johnny Burns got free with Valter Klack in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Here Comes the Hammer fans cheered their team off the field, for while Club Atlético de Newell had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
