In the 27th minute of the match, Bob Chute got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sandrinho Sabóia was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Tomás Schmidt might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wágner Ribeiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomás Schmidt ran back to his position shaking his head. Thiago Damião struck a weak shot in the 36th minute.
