International Thunders's Jan-Hauke Balke was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gabriel Wischnowsky in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. International Thunders's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Björn Hainl in the 28th minute. If Gerrit Dohr had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Nicolas Anelka fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KFC Uerdingen 05's protests and gave Nicolas Anelka a yellow card for diving instead. In the 37th minute, Nicolas Anelka hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 0-1 became the score in the 46th minute when Damian Trac elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

International Thunders's Luca Divis was substituted for Tim Köppen. KFC Uerdingen 05's Gabriel Wischnowsky proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save KFC Uerdingen 05 from getting a goal against them.
