Lucjan Walentowicz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dudu Berger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldinho Gaucho in the 36th minute of play forced Bajbusy Fabian-a's goalkeeper Lucjan Walentowicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Chaouki Ben Rau got free with Gustavo Aparecido in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Lucjan Walentowicz made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Miguel Botelho sent off a good shot on target. If Ronaldinho Gaucho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 64th minute of the match, Dudu Berger got a very nice opportunity to score, but Lucjan Walentowicz was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ronaldinho Gaucho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Lucjan Walentowicz made a huge save.
