Spectators: 7450 (Terracing: 5589, Seating: 1713, VIP seats: 148) Anton Harlén started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. 3 minutes into the game, AIF's Anton Harlén nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Amancio Magdaleno made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The excitement rose when AIF's Bror Skoog after 8 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 0-2. Antonio Mundo kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 12thth minute. Though ot was a great shot AIF's keeper Bengt Felin was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. Bengt Felin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Antonio Mundo's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. Adolfo Caitano hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. If Jairo Formerio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kent Hägglund hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. The long shot by Jairo Formerio in the 22nd minute really tested Bengt Felin's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bror Skoog in the 23rd minute of play forced NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Amancio Magdaleno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amancio Magdaleno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anton Harlén, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bengt Felin came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Artemio Goiz. But to his dismay, Artemio Goiz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Kent Hägglund was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 33 minutes into the match. AIF's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Bror Skoog in the 46th minute. The corner led AIF's Christer Strömbom to a score. 2-3 in the 46th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 2-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Antonio Mundo made a kick off. Bror Skoog sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Antonio Mundo scored 3-3 in the 57th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bengt Felin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Antonio Mundo might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bengt Felin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Antonio Mundo ran back to his position shaking his head. When Bror Skoog fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AIF's protests and gave Bror Skoog a yellow card for diving instead. In the 61st match minute, AIF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bror Skoog to maneuver through the defense. 63 minutes into the match, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Amancio Magdaleno had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gunnar Klemensson. Bror Skoog blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Amancio Magdaleno having to make a save. Artemio Goiz's late challenge caught a AIF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Artemio Goiz helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of AIF booed when NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Artemio Goiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bror Skoog in the 73rd minute of play forced NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Amancio Magdaleno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The AIF fans' excitement grew in the 74th match minute when AIF's Bror Skoog looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bror Skoog got free with Amancio Magdaleno in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bengt Felin came out of the goal in the 83rd minute to try and stop a shot by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Jairo Formerio. But to his dismay, Jairo Formerio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-4. Baltasar Rios recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Antonio Mundo managed to get in a good position for a shot. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's supporters rose to their feet, but Antonio Mundo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bengt Felin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. AIF's Bengt Felin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Artemio Goiz in the 90th minute of play. In the 91st minute, Artemio Goiz made a precise shot to the right of Bengt Felin. AIF's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-4. An unexpectedly hard shot by Artemio Goiz in the 95th minute of play forced AIF's goalkeeper Bengt Felin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Augusto Dei got a free kick in the 96th minute. Many of AIF's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. AIF may have spent more time on the ball, but NEWELL´S OLD BOYS were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
