The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nestor Tabb received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Gijs Schaap tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gijs Schaap was out of position in the 6 minute of play, and Mingo Torrente capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Mingo Torrente really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. In the 9th minute, Jari Litmanen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 10 minutes, Mingo Torrente took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Gijs Schaap to make any attempt to save it. In the 13th minute, one of Springplank FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Springplank FC. In the 18th minute of the match, Mingo Torrente tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Gijs Schaap saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mingo Torrente in the 21st minute of play forced Springplank FC's goalkeeper Gijs Schaap to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gijs Schaap showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Tabb in the 22nd minute of the match. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Mingo Torrente hit a great ball. Springplank FC's Gijs Schaap played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mingo Torrente in the 45th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Nestor Tabb managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newells Old Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Nestor Tabb was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gijs Schaap breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 8-0.
Gijs Schaap came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by Newells Old Boys's Mingo Torrente. But to his dismay, Mingo Torrente quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 9-0. 58 minutes into the match, Mingo Torrente notched a goal, 10-0, to the right of Springplank FC's Gijs Schaap. Gijs Schaap was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Springplank FC's zone, Mingo Torrente stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gijs Schaap came out of the goal and Mingo Torrente tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mingo Torrente succeeded in the game's 62nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 11-0. Gijs Schaap showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Generoso Eyague, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. 66 minutes into the match, Guillermo Ovando notched a goal, 12-0, to the right of Springplank FC's Gijs Schaap. Gijs Schaap was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 69 minutes of play, Newells Old Boys's Mingo Torrente made it 13-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gijs Schaap was left in no man's land by his defense there! 72 minutes into the match, Mingo Torrente notched a goal, 14-0, to the right of Springplank FC's Gijs Schaap. Gijs Schaap was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The corner ended in Mingo Torrente almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Springplank FC's Gijs Schaap did a great save. The Newells Old Boys fans' excitement grew in the 79th match minute when Newells Old Boys's Mingo Torrente looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 16-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 82 minutes into the match, Springplank FC's goal looked a bit too open when Mingo Torrente came free, but Gijs Schaap reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edwin Huisingh during the 83rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 83rd minute, Edwin Huisingh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Guillermo Ovando came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Newells Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guillermo Ovando couldn't finish the play. Gijs Schaap showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mingo Torrente, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. In the 87th match minute, Springplank FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernard Theunissen to maneuver through the defense. In the 89th minute, Guillermo Ovando left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newells Old Boys fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 17-0. 92 minutes into the game, Nestor Tabb cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 18-0. Gijs Schaap was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 96th minute Mingo Torrente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gijs Schaap saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gijs Schaap showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mingo Torrente in the 97th minute of the match. There was no doubt that Newells Old Boys were the better team. Newells Old Boys's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
