Amador Urti fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jozef Sivčo having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, V.K.DRINK Hermanovce's Albert Švehla nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Froilan Rafe made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Benjamin Valiente struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Jozef Sivčo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newells Old Boys. When Štefan Martin fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored V.K.DRINK Hermanovce's protests and gave Štefan Martin a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when V.K.DRINK Hermanovce was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Štefan Martin didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Albert Švehla put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Froilan Rafe. After the first half V.K.DRINK Hermanovce were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
