Spectators: 7441 (Terracing: 5582, Seating: 1711, VIP seats: 148) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Matías de Moraes kicked off to start the match. Luiz Fernando Figueiredo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ulu Özkutsal, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. After 7 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Güney Tekinsoy. When the match clock showed 16 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Orçun Baloğlu sped through S.C. Corinthians Paulista's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Luiz Fernando Figueiredo. Newells Old Boys's Alkın Gökekin got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cleiton Pernambucano charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cleiton Pernambucano the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Cleiton Pernambucano kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Mehmet Şefik Balcan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego da Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 25th minute, Oğuzalp Baştürk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Newells Old Boys's Mehmet Şefik Balcan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adalberto Veloso in the 26th minute of play. Mehmet Şefik Balcan came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by S.C. Corinthians Paulista's Adalberto Veloso. But to his dismay, Adalberto Veloso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Oğuzalp Baştürk hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. 36 minutes into the game, Ulu Özkutsal recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Luiz Fernando Figueiredo. Ulu Özkutsal showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-1. 39 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Giuseppe Guerra came free, but Mehmet Şefik Balcan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mehmet Şefik Balcan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Renatinho Ramalho in the 43rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Adalberto Veloso managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.C. Corinthians Paulista's supporters rose to their feet, but Adalberto Veloso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mehmet Şefik Balcan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Orçun Baloğlu to make the kick off. In the 54th minute, Newells Old Boys's Güney Tekinsoy seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Güney Tekinsoy the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Newells Old Boys protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Güney Tekinsoy had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 55 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Güney Tekinsoy. Luís Fabiano da Costa hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ulu Özkutsal in the 69th minute of play forced S.C. Corinthians Paulista's goalkeeper Luiz Fernando Figueiredo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Ahmet Arif Kutlay got a free kick in the 79th minute. If Alkın Gökekin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kamil Geylani's late challenge caught a S.C. Corinthians Paulista's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kamil Geylani helped the player get up and apologised. Kamil Geylani kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. The Newells Old Boys players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
