The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave Cevahir Boz a yellow card for diving instead. With a little luck, Newells Old Boys's Mehmet Şefik Balcan got control of the ball when Clemente Teles tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Luís Porto in the 13th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Mehmet Şefik Balcan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Clemente Teles got free with Mehmet Şefik Balcan in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 17th minute, Diego Barros made a precise shot to the right of Mehmet Şefik Balcan. Newells Old Boys's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Mehmet Şefik Balcan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roger Melo in the 27th minute of play. In the 32nd minute Roger Melo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mehmet Şefik Balcan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Newells Old Boys's defense didn't have a chance, in the 33rd minute, when Pedro Luís Porto scored to the left of an out of position Mehmet Şefik Balcan, making the score, 2-0. Pedro Luís Porto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th minute, Clemente Teles ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mehmet Şefik Balcan was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Mehmet Şefik Balcan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Barros in the 53rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Luís Porto in the 54th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Mehmet Şefik Balcan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Diego Barros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. In the 62nd minute Diego Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mehmet Şefik Balcan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 72 minutes into the match, Diego Barros notched a goal, 6-0, to the right of Newells Old Boys's Mehmet Şefik Balcan. Mehmet Şefik Balcan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Mehmet Şefik Balcan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roger Melo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Diego Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mehmet Şefik Balcan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Diego Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. The audience was convinced that Diego Barros's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mehmet Şefik Balcan was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roger Melo in the 91st minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Mehmet Şefik Balcan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mehmet Şefik Balcan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Luís Porto in the 92nd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Newells Old Boys defense, Roger Melo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mehmet Şefik Balcan. The Newells Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mehmet Şefik Balcan should have stopped the shot.
