The crowd rose to their feet as Sporting de Gijón's Celedonio Kinsen slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Sándor Jászberényi. That made the score 1-0 after 7 minutes of play. Gyál United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 13th minute, when Blas-Armando Giunta scored to the left of an out of position Sándor Jászberényi, making the score, 2-0. 17 minutes into the match, Gyál United's goalkeeper Sándor Jászberényi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Blas-Armando Giunta. The crowd rose to their feet as Blas-Armando Giunta kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Sándor Jászberényi. That made the score 3-0 in the 18 minute of play. Celedonio Kinsen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Sándor Jászberényi made a huge save. In the 23rd minute Ottó Gyarmati shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Desiderio Frederik saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Eloy Timo fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sporting de Gijón's protests and gave Eloy Timo a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Eloy Timo hit a great ball. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 28th minute after Gyál United's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Blas-Armando Giunta took the corner. Blas-Armando Giunta made a great header on Sporting de Gijón's corner, it was just that Gyál United's Sándor Jászberényi managed to reach the ball for a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ottó Gyarmati in the 36th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Desiderio Frederik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Cristian Medina got a free kick in the 42nd minute. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Eloy Timo hit a great ball. Sándor Jászberényi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amadeo Panpili in the 47th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Blas-Armando Giunta was the one to do the kick off. After 51 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Celedonio Kinsen. Sporting de Gijón's Ezequiel Fernández got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Blas-Armando Giunta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 63 minutes into the match, Gyál United's goal looked a bit too open when Blas-Armando Giunta came free, but Sándor Jászberényi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Gyál United booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amadeo Panpili didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 70th minute Blas-Armando Giunta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sándor Jászberényi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Róbert Vajda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When János Döbrögi came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Gyál United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that János Döbrögi couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Blas-Armando Giunta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Blas-Armando Giunta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sándor Jászberényi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 77th minute, Tibor Kerékgyártó hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sporting de Gijón were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Gyál United for a fine match.
