The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Celedonio Kinsen. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Eloy Timo hit a great ball. Desiderio Frederik made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Christian Uzuri sent off a good shot on target. Nicolas Roldanillo kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. After 14 played minutes, Sporting de Gijón's Blas-Armando Giunta shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Pablo Oroitz came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting de Gijón reached it. Nicolas Roldanillo charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nicolas Roldanillo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 15th match minute, Atlético y Tiro Rqta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicolas Roldanillo to maneuver through the defense. Atlético y Tiro Rqta's Pablo Oroitz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celedonio Kinsen in the 20th minute of play. In the 29th minute, Blas-Armando Giunta left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sporting de Gijón fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 32nd match minute, Atlético y Tiro Rqta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Martin Thomas to maneuver through the defense. Desiderio Frederik made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Eugenio Steven sent off a good shot on target. In the 44th minute Christian Uzuri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Desiderio Frederik saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Gregorio Jerrold had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Blas-Armando Giunta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pablo Oroitz was out of position in the 55 minute of play, and Amadeo Panpili capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Amadeo Panpili really showed his touch with that goal: 0-2. Atlético y Tiro Rqta's Arnaldo Macias was substituted for Anacleto Kinsen. Pablo Oroitz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Blas-Armando Giunta in the 62nd minute of play. After 65 played minutes Atlético y Tiro Rqta got a freekick which was hit by Aldo Uxio. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Arnoldo Ubarna replaced Amadeo Panpili. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Gustavo Quintin replaced Eloy Timo. A collision led to Atlético y Tiro Rqta getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Aldo Uxio hit a great ball. The supporters of Atlético y Tiro Rqta booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruslan Rudchenko didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Uzuri in the 79th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Desiderio Frederik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Desiderio Frederik showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Uzuri, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Ezequiel Fernández sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arnoldo Ubarna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gijón's zone, Arnaldo Macias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Desiderio Frederik came out of the goal and Arnaldo Macias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Desiderio Frederik showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Christian Uzuri in the 93rd minute of the match.
