Wilton de Amaral's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Matthieu Abelard read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. Matthieu Abelard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilton de Amaral in the 9th minute of play. Keith Knightley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elano Travassos having to interfere. After 18 minutes of play, Karaboudjan's Wilton de Amaral made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Matthieu Abelard was left in no man's land by his defense there! Matthieu Abelard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilton de Amaral in the 27th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Karaboudjan's Matthieu Abelard threw himself towards the right post 30 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Filomeno Nicholas, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Greg Bastow hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Matthieu Abelard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Filomeno Nicholas in the 32nd minute of play. Club Atlético de Newell's Matthieu Abelard played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filomeno Nicholas in the 34th minute of play. Refik Cumhur might have been able to make a better finish in the 36th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Matthieu Abelard. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Refik Cumhur ran back to his position shaking his head. 37 minutes into the match, Club Atlético de Newell's goal looked a bit too open when Evaristo Tolino came free, but Matthieu Abelard reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 42nd minute, Philip Bakewell left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club Atlético de Newell fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Wilton de Amaral to make the kick off. Tommy Knight kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. If Filomeno Nicholas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Philip Bakewell recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zé Augusto Brasil in the 73rd minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Matthieu Abelard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Matthieu Abelard took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Filomeno Nicholas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 87 played minutes Club Atlético de Newell got a freekick which was hit by Tommy Knight. In the 89th minute, Refik Cumhur got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Refik Cumhur managed to get in a good position for a shot. Karaboudjan's supporters rose to their feet, but Refik Cumhur was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Matthieu Abelard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Despite being the better team, Karaboudjan failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
