The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 2nd match minute, Champions Iasi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by George Vâlcu to maneuver through the defense. Sergiu Angheluță made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kılıçhan Öztunç in the 34th minute of play. Sergiu Angheluță showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Poyraz Özbilen in the 35th minute of the match. The referee ignored Champions Iasi's protests and gave Ioan Jupâneanu a yellow card for diving instead.
