Norman-Alexander Wellmann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Randell McCullough, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. Waldemar Giesen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Brice Leach tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Marin Pool had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Benjamin Schürhoff managed to get in a good position for a shot. FV Wienerwald's supporters rose to their feet, but Benjamin Schürhoff was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brice Leach breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 18th minute Benjamin Schürhoff shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brice Leach saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Varennes getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Randell McCullough hit a great ball. Benjamin Schürhoff could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Brice Leach made a huge save. 26 minutes into the match, Varennes's goalkeeper Brice Leach had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benjamin Schürhoff. With a little luck, Varennes's Brice Leach got control of the ball when Benjamin Schürhoff tried to sneak it across the goal line. Philipp Haberer lost his temper 32 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 31st minute, one of FV Wienerwald:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FV Wienerwald. After 37 minutes of play, Varennes's Lee Coffman made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Norman-Alexander Wellmann was left in no man's land by his defense there! Varennes's Brice Leach proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Varennes from getting a goal against them. In the 41st minute Ellsworth Lindsay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norman-Alexander Wellmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Ellsworth Lindsay had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Varennes's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Brad Elliott in the 48th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of FV Wienerwald's goalie and right to Gale Laliberté. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. FV Wienerwald's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Benjamin Schürhoff to strike the kick off in the second half. Joachim Schlagbauer charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Joachim Schlagbauer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benjamin Schürhoff in the 64th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Brice Leach saved Varennes from getting behind. Lee Coffman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Norman-Alexander Wellmann having to interfere. FV Wienerwald made a substitution. Andre-Yann Kahofer replaced Patrik Kölblinger. When FV Wienerwald's Benjamin Schürhoff in the 68th minute got a chance for a shot 68th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Marin Pool could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Norman-Alexander Wellmann made a huge save. Benjamin Schürhoff sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gale Laliberté struck a weak shot in the 98th minute. Norman-Alexander Wellmann didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varennes. The FV Wienerwald fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Varennes were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
