With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arthur Cardozo in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Miguel Sancho saved Newells Old Boys from getting behind. Newells Old Boys's Miguel Sancho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. If Prospero Ekhi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Pirani's late challenge caught a Newells Old Boys's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Newells Old Boys's Miguel Sancho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomás Maia in the 47th minute of play.

The tension between the Newells Old Boys and the The Beatles players grew even worse after the yellow card.
