An unexpectedly hard shot by Dominik Skikiewicz in the 4th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Miguel Sancho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. KKS Lech Poznań's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newells Old Boys the free kick. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when KKS Lech Poznań was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dominik Skikiewicz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gustaw Furlit to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Amador Urti got a free kick in the 57th minute. Miguel Sancho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Janusz Dylla, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. After a rather tough play, KKS Lech Poznań's Wasyl Cebula got a free kick in the 64th minute. Prospero Ekhi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Newells Old Boys's Miguel Sancho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. From close distance Gustaw Furlit pressed in the 1-3 goal high up into nets stiches in the right cross 92 minutes into the game. In the 96th minute Prospero Ekhi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Boruc Praski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. KKS Lech Poznań played a much better game than Newells Old Boys and deserved their victory. The Newells Old Boys players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
