The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 9th minute Diego Nesor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Osvaldo Cadena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 10th minute, Ladislao Senio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Len Barr fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvio Dei having to interfere. Pascal Dailey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Silvio Dei tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Len Barr sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Osvaldo Cadena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Segundo Marin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cecilio Menendo's late challenge caught a Brooklyn SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cecilio Menendo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd minute, Cecilio Menendo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Brooklyn SC getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Martin Andrade hit a great ball. Silvio Dei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Len Barr in the 32nd minute of the match. 35 minutes into the game, Ladislao Senio cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Osvaldo Cadena was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A.J. Spangler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvio Dei having to interfere. In the 46th minute, A.J. Spangler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Len Barr had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Osvaldo Cadena stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ladislao Senio's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. After 55 minutes, Ladislao Senio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gimnasia y tiro and the Brooklyn SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jon Smith was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 58 minutes into the match. With an all-out effort, Gimnasia y tiro's Osvaldo Cadena threw himself towards the right post 62 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ladislao Senio, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The supporters of Gimnasia y tiro booed when Brooklyn SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Martin Andrade didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 69th minute, Segundo Marin made a precise shot to the right of Osvaldo Cadena. Brooklyn SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Len Barr took the ball and in the 77 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Silvio Dei. Silvio Dei dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. If A.J. Spangler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gimnasia y tiro's Cecilio Menendo got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Silvio Dei showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from A.J. Spangler, who was totally free with the ball in the 98th minute.
