The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Amador Urti got a free kick in the 12th minute. Ubaldo Silvanito made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cecilio Menendo in the 17th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Ladislao Senio ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ubaldo Silvanito was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. 21 minutes into the match, Diego Nesor had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito. Newells Old Boys's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Diego Nesor was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Diego Nesor scored 0-5 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 28 minutes into the game, Gimnasia y tiro's Segundo Marin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ubaldo Silvanito made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-6. 34 minutes into the match, Diego Nesor had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito. Gimnasia y tiro played a much better game than Newells Old Boys and deserved their victory. The Newells Old Boys players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
