Leonardo Pes was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 13 minutes into the match. In the 14th match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leonardo Pes to maneuver through the defense. Newells Old Boys's Ubaldo Silvanito proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. Janusz Zukowski who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 20thth minute tested the skills of Ubaldo Silvanito when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The KKS Lech Poznań fans' excitement grew in the 20th match minute when KKS Lech Poznań's Janusz Zukowski looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Janusz Zukowskis short, quick shot in the 25thth minute got Ubaldo Silvanito to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 31 minutes into the match, KKS Lech Poznań's Waldemar Malik sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ubaldo Silvanito narrowly saved just below the crossbar. KKS Lech Poznań's Janusz Zukowski got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 33rd match minute, KKS Lech Poznań was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dominik Skikiewicz to maneuver through the defense. Ubaldo Silvanito breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 66 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Dominik Skikiewicz came free, but Ubaldo Silvanito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Barnaba Radziszewski made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Benjamin Valiente sent off a good shot on target. Ubaldo Silvanito showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Waldemar Malik in the 69th minute of the match. Zula Niemoj sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 73rd minute Janusz Zukowski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ubaldo Silvanito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ubaldo Silvanito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zula Niemoj, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. 76 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Zula Niemoj came free, but Ubaldo Silvanito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Janusz Zukowski recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alfonso Etxatxu during the 77th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Alfonso Etxatxu hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. In the 81st minute, Janusz Zukowski ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ubaldo Silvanito was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Radomil Kolba hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. In the 98th minute, KKS Lech Poznań's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Benjamin Valiente fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. For all the effort they put into the match, the Newells Old Boys players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for KKS Lech Poznań.
