Spectators: 7506 (Terracing: 5630, Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 150) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Armando Rosalio started the match with the kick off. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Florencio Kemen hit a great ball. Armando Rosalio scored 1-0 in the 7th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Florencio Kemen kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Armando Rosalios short, quick shot in the 14thth minute got Ubaldo Silvanito to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Armando Rosalio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ovidio Etxatxu got free with Ubaldo Silvanito in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 25 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Florencio Kemen. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Rosalio in the 26th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ubaldo Silvanito to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Newells Old Boys defense, Armando Rosalio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito. The Newells Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ubaldo Silvanito should have stopped the shot. In the 33rd minute, Leonardo Pes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Inocencio Matai, 34 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Ubaldo Silvanito took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Inocencio Matai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Newells Old Boys's Ubaldo Silvanito proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. In the 43rd match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Iago to maneuver through the defense. Ubaldo Silvanito took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Mancio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Mercado Paulista F.C booed when Newells Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florencio Kemen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Florencio Kemen to make the kick off. In the 56th minute of the match, Amador Urti tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Diego Vargas saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 57th minute, Cristian Eduino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Diego Vargas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amador Urti in the 58th minute of play. In the 60th minute, Florencio Kemen reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Diego Vargas. The goal made the score 2-1. In the 65th minute Armando Rosalio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ubaldo Silvanito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Florencio Kemen in the 67th minute of play forced Mercado Paulista F.C's goalkeeper Diego Vargas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luis Mancio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Ubaldo Silvanito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ovidio Etxatxu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ubaldo Silvanito having to interfere. After some careless play in the Newells Old Boys defense, Armando Rosalio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ubaldo Silvanito. The Newells Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ubaldo Silvanito should have stopped the shot. Newells Old Boys's Ubaldo Silvanito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Armando Rosalio in the 78th minute of play. The referee felt a red card was in order, 84 minutes into the game, when Jeronimo Oier put in a rough tackle. Amador Urti received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Diego Vargas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Amador Urti hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match.
