Alex Pereira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Claudinei Teles in the 4th minute of the match. After 8 played minutes S S Palestra Italia got a freekick which was hit by Dagoberto Rossi. 10 minutes into the game, Arnaldo Tasso threw the ball into play from the sideline. S S Palestra Italia's Anderson Cosme quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Remo da Costa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vivaldo Mattos's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. S S Palestra Italia's players were relieved. 22 minutes into the match, S S Palestra Italia's goal looked a bit too open when Ricardo Arantes came free, but Remo da Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ricardo Arantes received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Remo da Costa came out and tried to block the shot, but Ricardo Arantes slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 27th minute. After a defensive mix-up in S S Palestra Italia's zone, Nestor de Lima stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Remo da Costa came out of the goal and Nestor de Lima tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. S S Palestra Italia's Remo da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Célio Mangueira in the 31st minute of play. During the 39th minute of the match Dagoberto Rossi completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Dagoberto Rossi a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Dagoberto Rossi hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Remo da Costa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Célio Mangueira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Remo da Costa made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Célio Mangueira sent off a good shot on target. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Célio Mangueira to strike the kick off in the second half. After 75 played minutes S S Palestra Italia got a freekick which was hit by Anderson Cosme. Luís Paulo da Mata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 84 minutes into the match, S S Palestra Italia's goal looked a bit too open when Vivaldo Mattos came free, but Remo da Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Remo da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardo Arantes in the 90th minute of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. S S Palestra Italia walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
