The referee showed Ronaldo Nóbrega the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to LUIZ PANATO getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Ronaldo Nóbrega hit a great ball. Jerônimo Campidelis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rômulo Cearense in the 25th minute of the match. In the 31st minute, Didi Rocha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jerônimo Campidelis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rômulo Cearense's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. Zé Domingues made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reginaldo Vale in the 34th minute. LUIZ PANATO's Fellipe de Lara got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rômulo Cearense stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Faustão Motta came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Corinthians fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Faustão Motta couldn't finish the play. Rômulo Cearense's late challenge caught a Corinthians's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The tension between the LUIZ PANATO and the Corinthians players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, LUIZ PANATO's Haroldo Domingues got a free kick in the 77th minute. After a defensive mix-up in LUIZ PANATO's zone, Gonçalo de Lara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zé Domingues came out of the goal and Gonçalo de Lara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zé Domingues took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reginaldo Vale, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. LUIZ PANATO's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
