Aloísio de Barros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Boni Arregui made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Durval Torres in the 23rd minute of play forced Atletico Aragua FC's goalkeeper Boni Arregui to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cleiton Alcântara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Osoitz Nadal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ciro Mandrak received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Boni Arregui tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee felt a red card was in order, 35 minutes into the game, when Tales Valladares put in a rough tackle. 34 minutes into the game, one of Pereiras FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. If Aloísio de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Gentza Natos charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gentza Natos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 58th minute, Durval Torres ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Boni Arregui was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The referee ignored Pereiras FC's protests and gave Durval Torres a yellow card for diving instead. Durval Torres hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. In the 76th minute Blas Terres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cleiton Alcântara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sebastião Penha helped the player get up and apologised. After 92 played minutes Pereiras FC got a freekick which was hit by Sebastião Penha. Durval Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 99th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Boni Arregui having to interfere.
