The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Jim Frisck had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bengt-Åke Lövskog hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. In the 8th match minute, UFC STEAUA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Corneliu Hurezeanu to maneuver through the defense. Sofiane Charradi's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 9thth minute, Ernest Obreja skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Costică Mangra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Ingmar Hellström tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Sofiane Charradi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ernest Obreja, 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sofiane Charradi in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ernest Obreja saved UFC STEAUA from getting behind. An unexpected shot in the 20th minute by Brahim Charradi got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Dragoş Bojonca charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dragoş Bojonca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Dragoş Bojonca hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the UFC STEAUA defense, Jim Frisck kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ernest Obreja. The UFC STEAUA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ernest Obreja should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sofiane Charradi in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ernest Obreja saved UFC STEAUA from getting behind. After 29 played minutes UFC STEAUA got a freekick which was hit by Filip Băncilă. After recieving a nice pass, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Hans Bocklund tried to score from far away in the 30th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Sofiane Charradi scored 3-0 in the 33rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ernest Obreja, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 36 minutes into the match, Ioan Oțeteleșanu notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Ingmar Hellström. Ingmar Hellström was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ingmar Hellström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Costică Mangra in the 41st minute of play. After a rather tough play, UFC STEAUA's Costică Mangra got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Ernest Obreja showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sofiane Charradi, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jim Frisck during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Sofiane Charradi made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Étoile Sportive Du Sahel booed when UFC STEAUA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ioan Oțeteleșanu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 54th minute of the match Hans Bocklund shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ernest Obreja showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ioan Oțeteleșanu hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Ernest Obreja came out of the goal in the 67th minute to try and stop a shot by Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Sofiane Charradi. But to his dismay, Sofiane Charradi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. In the 73rd match minute, UFC STEAUA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Corneliu Hurezeanu to maneuver through the defense. UFC STEAUA's Ernest Obreja played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sofiane Charradi in the 78th minute of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Jim Frisck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jim Frisck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ernest Obreja showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jim Frisck in the 86th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jim Frisck in the 91st minute of play forced UFC STEAUA's goalkeeper Ernest Obreja to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 95thth minute of the game Sofiane Charradi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but UFC STEAUA's Ernest Obreja was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
