Exército Português's Angelo Palha got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 18th minute, Augusto Ponte left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Exército Português fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. If Marco Lop had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carlos Quinito didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Augusto Ponte went, in the 26th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. Exército Português's Israel Correia got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Quinito showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augusto Ponte in the 31st minute of the match. 37 minutes into the game, Exército Português's António Pires nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carlos Quinito made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Eustacio Gaskon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sandro Valverde having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marco Lop got free with Sandro Valverde in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 46 minutes into the match, Exército Português's goalkeeper Sandro Valverde had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eustacio Gaskon. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marco Lop stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Silvestre Almeida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dionisio Olivar took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 52nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Sandro Valverde. Exército Português's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, Augusto Ponte had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Carlos Quinito. Boca Juniors's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Augusto Ponte was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. In the 61stth minute of the game Marco Lop who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Exército Português's Sandro Valverde was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by António Pires in the 71st minute of play forced Boca Juniors's goalkeeper Carlos Quinito to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 73rd minute, Erasmo Gotzon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 83 minutes into the match, Exército Português's goal looked a bit too open when Eustacio Gaskon came free, but Sandro Valverde reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Eustacio Gaskon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marco Lop in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sandro Valverde prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Marco Lop struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Sandro Valverde didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Boca Juniors. Exército Português's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
