After 3 minutes of play, Estudiantes de Merida FC's Amancio Pedrueza made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Falcão Severo was left in no man's land by his defense there! Zé Paulo de Lara charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zé Paulo de Lara the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Zé Paulo de Lara kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. When Tomás Borges in the 12th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Rafael Moscoso kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 1-1 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Germano Gerber in the 17th minute of play forced Estudiantes de Merida FC's goalkeeper Rafael Moscoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Silverio Peralta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Clube Audax Metropolitano's Tomás Borges got a free kick in the 20th minute. If Amancio Pedrueza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Estudiantes de Merida FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Tomás Borges 23 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-1. Tomás Borges was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 28th minute. Clube Audax Metropolitano's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Miguel Fontes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Rafael Moscoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 36th minute Luís Paulo Maia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rafael Moscoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th minute, Luís Paulo Maia reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Rafael Moscoso. The goal made the score 3-1. Germano Gerber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 42 played minutes Clube Audax Metropolitano got a freekick which was hit by Durvalino Neiva. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Jose Nevares's late challenge caught a Clube Audax Metropolitano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jose Nevares helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Clube Audax Metropolitano booed when Estudiantes de Merida FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hanot Piña in the 72nd minute of play forced Clube Audax Metropolitano's goalkeeper Falcão Severo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomás Borges in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rafael Moscoso saved Estudiantes de Merida FC from getting behind. If Miguel Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 82nd minute, Estudiantes de Merida FC's Hanot Piña ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Falcão Severo. Falcão Severo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-2. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Tomás Borges put it in 4-2 from a short distance just to the right of Rafael Moscoso. For all the effort they put into the match, the Estudiantes de Merida FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Clube Audax Metropolitano.
