An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Guilherme Cabral in the 13th minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Uriel Raymon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Uriel Raymon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gonçalo Sarmento in the 14th minute of play. Real Cruzeiro FC's Ivo Amaral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Isaac Marcones in the 20th minute of play. After 22 minutes, Washington Alagoano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Real Cruzeiro FC and the Velez Sarsfield players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 22 played minutes Real Cruzeiro FC got a freekick which was hit by Washington Alagoano. The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when Real Cruzeiro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Guilherme Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 35th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Genaro Argina to maneuver through the defense. In the 37th minute Isaac Marcones shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivo Amaral saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Genaro Argina could shoot a difficult shot in the 38th minute, which Ivo Amaral however easily saved by the left post. Ivo Amaral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isaac Marcones in the 39th minute of play. If Isaac Marcones had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ivo Amaral made an important save on a dangerous shot by Genaro Argina in the 45th minute. Fábio Pontes charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fábio Pontes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when Real Cruzeiro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fábio Pontes didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, Velez Sarsfield's Arsenio Dalmai tried to score from far away in the 47th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Isaac Marcones was the one to do the kick off. Ivo Amaral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Isaac Marcones, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Real Cruzeiro FC's zone, Victorio Gilesindo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ivo Amaral came out of the goal and Victorio Gilesindo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Real Cruzeiro FC defense, Benicio Diagur kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ivo Amaral. The Real Cruzeiro FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ivo Amaral should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Real Cruzeiro FC's Washington Alagoano got a free kick in the 76th minute. In the 80th minute Genaro Argina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivo Amaral saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Isaac Marcones struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Ivo Amaral didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Velez Sarsfield. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Júnior Salles during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Real Cruzeiro FC's Júnior Salles got a free kick in the 82nd minute. In the 83rd minute, Arsenio Dalmai sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Real Cruzeiro FC's Ivo Amaral didn't even have to move. 85 minutes into the match, Luís Guilherme Cabral notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Velez Sarsfield's Uriel Raymon. Uriel Raymon was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Isaac Marcones received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Ivo Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 96 minutes into the game, Genaro Argina cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-2. Ivo Amaral was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Velez Sarsfield were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Real Cruzeiro FC for a fine match.
