If Josué da Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mané Tavares came free with the goalkeeper in the 11th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Gilmar de Mendonça could save by the left post. Gilmar de Mendonça made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Mané Tavares sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Botafogo AP getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Guto Paraense hit a great ball. In the 19th minute, Josué da Cunha reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Gilmar de Mendonça. The goal made the score 1-0. Juninho Rossi hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Gilmar de Mendonça made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Josué da Cunha in the 29th minute of play. 35 minutes into the match, Beto Faria had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gilmar de Mendonça. Botafogo AP's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Beto Faria was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Josué da Cunha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mané Tavares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Beto Faria blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gilmar de Mendonça having to make a save. Gilmar de Mendonça stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Beto Faria's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. When Edson Tavares fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Botafogo AP's protests and gave Edson Tavares a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Botafogo AP getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Edson Tavares hit a great ball. 53 minutes into the match, Botafogo AP's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Tavares came free, but Gilmar de Mendonça reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Botafogo AP's zone, Léo Pitta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilmar de Mendonça came out of the goal and Léo Pitta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 60 minutes into the match, Botafogo AP's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Tavares came free, but Gilmar de Mendonça reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beto Faria in the 62nd minute of play forced Botafogo AP's goalkeeper Gilmar de Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 64th minute, Josué da Cunha made a precise shot to the right of Gilmar de Mendonça. Botafogo AP's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. In the 67th minute Josué da Cunha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilmar de Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of REAL VASCO RIO booed when Botafogo AP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guto Paraense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gilmar de Mendonça took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Josué da Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 91st minute, Botafogo AP's Caco Matos ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Régis Mota. Régis Mota yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 5-1. When Beto Faria came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the REAL VASCO RIO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Beto Faria couldn't finish the play. REAL VASCO RIO were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Botafogo AP for a fine match.
