In the 17th minute, Leopoldo Jacinto Herboso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jeremias Michael was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Jeremias Michael showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ariel Almeyda, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Silvio Lastarria showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gualterio Conrao in the 23rd minute of the match. Magallanes's Angelo Aracena got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 28 played minutes Madison got a freekick which was hit by Gregorio Hodei. Soriano Matamala kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gualterio Conrao in the 44th minute of play forced Magallanes's goalkeeper Silvio Lastarria to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Gerardo Obanos hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Blas Ubarna in the 53rd minute of play forced Magallanes's goalkeeper Silvio Lastarria to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leopoldo Jacinto Herboso struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Jeremias Michael didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Magallanes. Magallanes's Ruesga Chadwick was substituted for Angelo Aracena. After 63 played minutes Magallanes got a freekick which was hit by Ariel Almeyda. After 65 minutes, Antonio Abaunza mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Madison and the Magallanes players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Madison getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Antonio Abaunza hit a great ball. 67 minutes into the match, Magallanes's Ruesga Chadwick sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jeremias Michael narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Silvio Lastarria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gualterio Conrao in the 70th minute of play. In the 72nd match minute, Madison was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nereo Pedroso to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Madison's zone, Herminio Quintero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeremias Michael came out of the goal and Herminio Quintero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jeremias Michael made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ruesga Chadwick in the 80th minute. When Antonio Abaunza was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 83 minutes had been played. In the 84th minute, Antonio Abaunza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Magallanes's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
