The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Natanael Alvarenga prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 37 minutes into the match, FC Buzău's goal looked a bit too open when Tony Lopes came free, but Gheorghe Vărzaru reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gheorghe Vărzaru showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dagoberto Guedes, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. FC Buzău's Gheorghe Vărzaru played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tony Lopes in the 41st minute of play. Gheorghe Vărzaru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arthur Coimbra in the 43rd minute of play. Horea Ştati charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Horea Ştati the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When the match clock showed 97 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Costel Dorineanu sped through Cremonese FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Natanael Alvarenga.
