Martín Palermo had several of the Real Club Celta de Vigo's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 4 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Cristo Rico as he didn't even see the shot coming. In the 10th minute, Apolo Dimas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cristo Rico made a fantastic save in the 13th minute, when Martín Palermo sent off a good shot on target. In the 14th minute, Martín Cabezon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Bladi Lama fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Real Club Celta de Vigo's protests and gave Bladi Lama a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Real Club Celta de Vigo's Bladi Lama got a free kick in the 24th minute. Martín Palermo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Cristo Rico made a huge save. 27 minutes into the match, Ermegildo Otsoko had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cristo Rico. Real Club Celta de Vigo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ermegildo Otsoko was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. In the 35th minute of the match, Martín Palermo got a very nice opportunity to score, but Cristo Rico was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 46 minutes into the match, The Cavern Club's goal looked a bit too open when Burni Justo came free, but Tomás Esiquio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The Cavern Club made a substitution. Basilio Lorien replaced Ermegildo Otsoko. In the 54th minute, The Cavern Club's Fidel Macias seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Fidel Macias the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of The Cavern Club protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Fidel Macias had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Fidel Macias kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Real Club Celta de Vigo's Alexandro Lermo tried to score from far away in the 55th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Bladi Lama received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Tomás Esiquio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gizon Mata kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Martín Cabezon took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 60th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Cristo Rico. Real Club Celta de Vigo's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 61 minutes into the match, Real Club Celta de Vigo's goal looked a bit too open when Basilio Lorien came free, but Cristo Rico reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Martín Palermo took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cristo Rico. Cristo Rico dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. In the 68thth minute of the game Basilio Lorien who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Real Club Celta de Vigo's Cristo Rico was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 68th minute, Alvar Blanco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 74 minutes into the match, Real Club Celta de Vigo's goal looked a bit too open when Basilio Lorien came free, but Cristo Rico reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Cavern Club's Tomás Esiquio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save The Cavern Club from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elixio Garzon in the 81st minute of play forced The Cavern Club's goalkeeper Tomás Esiquio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Cavern Club's Tomás Esiquio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save The Cavern Club from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basilio Lorien in the 84th minute of play forced Real Club Celta de Vigo's goalkeeper Cristo Rico to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Real Club Celta de Vigo's Alvar Blanco got a free kick in the 84th minute. Martín Cabezon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristo Rico having to interfere. 91 minutes into the game, Basilio Lorien was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The Cavern Club's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Real Club Celta de Vigo the free kick. Basilio Lorien hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match.
