An unexpectedly hard shot by Efrain Baladi in the 6th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Domingo Bidari to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 13 minutes into the match, Maximiliano Baumar had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Domingo Bidari. Independiente's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Maximiliano Baumar was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Justo Solustiano struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Baltasar Maria didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independiente. In the 17th minute, Ruperto Pancho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 18th minute of the match Cristobal Cruz sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Baltasar Maria skillfully saved the ball. Siro Luken hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gualterio Salvator got free with Baltasar Maria in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 24th minute, Independiente's Cristobal Cruz seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cristobal Cruz the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Independiente protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cristobal Cruz had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Independiente fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 23rd minute. Penalty! After some careless play in the Independiente defense, Ciriaco Erlantz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Domingo Bidari. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 31st minute, but Baltasar Maria got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving Congo Bongo hanging dry this time. 38 minutes into the match, Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Ciriaco Erlantz came free, but Domingo Bidari reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. German Uhin's late challenge caught a Congo Bongo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. German Uhin helped the player get up and apologised. Independiente's Domingo Bidari played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jacobo Raymon in the 43rd minute of play. When Ruperto Pancho was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 46 minutes had been played. After 47 played minutes Congo Bongo got a freekick which was hit by Ruperto Pancho. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Domingo Bidari breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Congo Bongo's Orlando Piarres suffered a concussion in the 58th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. When Siro Luken fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Independiente's protests and gave Siro Luken a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Independiente getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Siro Luken hit a great ball. After 61 played minutes Congo Bongo got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Rainerio. The crowd rose to their feet as Congo Bongo's Pedro Rainerio slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Domingo Bidari. That made the score 0-4 after 63 minutes of play. 71 minutes into the game, Independiente's Justo Solustiano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Baltasar Maria made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. Baltasar Maria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from German Uhin in the 78th minute of play. Independiente's defense didn't have a chance, in the 93rd minute, when Jacobo Raymon scored to the left of an out of position Domingo Bidari, making the score, 1-6. In the 96th minute Efrain Baladi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Domingo Bidari saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
