In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Elderslie Magpies's goalkeeper Christian Kerville, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 24th minute of the match UFC STEAUA got a corner. Elderslie Magpies's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nelson Mendoza ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 30th minute Ovidio Etxekopar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Massa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the game, Steven Chaptal cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. João Massa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a little luck, UFC STEAUA's João Massa got control of the ball when Neal Weatherby tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, UFC STEAUA's Emanuel Gheorghe got a free kick in the 83rd minute. In the 88th match minute, Elderslie Magpies was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ralph Gorham to maneuver through the defense.
