Stein Spoelberch made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Thomas Vollmar sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brent Nelleboedske in the 15th minute of play forced Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Newcastle United supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Club Brugge's performance. The match ended with a win for Club Brugge.
