Thanks to some nice moves Stig-Åke Wiklund could shoot a difficult shot in the 2nd minute, which Semail Kılıçer however easily saved by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Algot Kruse in the 4th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Semail Kılıçer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 8 minutes, Mattias Swahn took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Semail Kılıçer to make any attempt to save it. Nils Eklund showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nihat İlsak, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Algot Kruse in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Semail Kılıçer saved Newells Old Boys from getting behind. Nils Eklund took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kenny N'Diaye, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hacı Ali Süvari kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. 47 minutes into the game, Claes Olenberg threw the ball into play from the sideline. Newells Old Boys's Alptuğ Behram quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 48 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's Lokman Sağlamtürk sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nils Eklund narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
