But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cecilio Tristan couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Newells Old Boys's Semail Kılıçer got control of the ball when Cecilio Tristan tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Temel Ulubaş had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Newells Old Boys defense, Cecilio Tristan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Semail Kılıçer. The Newells Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Semail Kılıçer should have stopped the shot. 19 minutes into the match, Kenny N'Diaye notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Abuba Akotonon FC's Hugo Orlando Gatti.
