Liu Zhi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lütfü Mürsel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Borussia Dortmund MZB's Michel Neuer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Borussia Dortmund MZB from getting a goal against them. Michel Neuer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Freddy Cordarrell in the 19th minute of play. Lütfü Mürsel came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Dortmund MZB's Liu Zhi. But to his dismay, Liu Zhi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Lütfü Mürsel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Liu Zhi in the 25th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Fenerbahçe defense, Liu Zhi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lütfü Mürsel. The Fenerbahçe fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lütfü Mürsel should have stopped the shot. Liu Zhi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lütfü Mürsel having to make a save. Liu Zhi scored 1-3 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lütfü Mürsel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. With an all-out effort, Fenerbahçe's Michel Neuer threw himself towards the right post 40 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Metehan Aurelio, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Jairo Dalmai kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. After having played for 49 minutes, Liu Zhi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Borussia Dortmund MZB's supporters crossed their fingers, but Liu Zhi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sune Bergdal stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Michel Neuer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Metehan Aurelio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Metehan Aurelio fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fenerbahçe's protests and gave Metehan Aurelio a yellow card for diving instead. Metehan Aurelio hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Liu Zhi in the 59thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Lütfü Mürsel, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Borussia Dortmund MZB's Edinho Alcântara was substituted for Sune Bergdal. The excitement rose when Fenerbahçe's Dorival Alagoano after 64 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for Borussia Dortmund MZB's goalkeeper to hold. After 80 played minutes Wictor Carlsson rounded Fenerbahçe's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-4. Fenerbahçe's Lütfü Mürsel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Fenerbahçe from getting a goal against them. He Xiao Ao could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Lütfü Mürsel made a huge save. 96 minutes into the game, Freddy Cordarrell was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fenerbahçe's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Dortmund MZB the free kick. In the 96th match minute, Fenerbahçe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Freddy Cordarrell to maneuver through the defense.
