Valencia C.F.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Laurids Hvenekilde ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Hønning's corner Laurids Hvenekilde fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jerry Lodge quite easily take care of the ball. A collision led to Hønning getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Per Nørbjerg hit a great ball. Per Nørbjerg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jerry Lodge having to interfere. John-Arne Riise kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Joe Herring took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gert Altorn. Gert Altorn dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. The audience was convinced that Joe Herring's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gert Altorn was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Hønning's Torben Steenhede got a free kick in the 36th minute. 39 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s Joe Herring sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gert Altorn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 40th minute, Betinho Beton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 41st minute of the match Guillermo Farré sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gert Altorn skillfully saved the ball. Adam Harding kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Hønning's Per Nørbjerg got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gert Altorn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joe Herring in the 45th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Joe Herring to make the kick off. Olav Blommegaard made in the 51st minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which John-Arne Riise however managed to control. In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hønning's goalkeeper Gert Altorn, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Joe Herring sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Valencia C.F.'s goalkeeper Jerry Lodge, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Per Nørbjerg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joe Herring in the 67th minute of play forced Hønning's goalkeeper Gert Altorn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gert Altorn made an important save on a dangerous shot by Joe Herring in the 69th minute. A collision led to Hønning getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. John-Arne Riise hit a great ball. After 76 minutes Hønning's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Guillermo Farré who took care of the corner kick. Valencia C.F.'s Guillermo Farré was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gert Altorn in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Gert Altorn made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Joe Herring sent off a good shot on target. Gert Altorn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joe Herring, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. Valencia C.F.'s supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
