Armando Bonelli was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of Sorci Viola booed when FC U Cluj-N was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filip Trifan didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 22nd minute Ivan Florescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armando Bonelli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, FC U Cluj-N's Iosif Bălcescu got a free kick in the 22nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Emilio Ricciuti managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sorci Viola's Armando Bonelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivan Florescu in the 38th minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, FC U Cluj-N's goalkeeper Mircea Calboreanu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edoardo Meo. Armando Bonelli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 曾钢宁, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Armando Bonelli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivan Florescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half FC U Cluj-N were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cesare Loreto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 60 minutes into the match, Sorci Viola's goal looked a bit too open when Ivan Florescu came free, but Armando Bonelli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th minute, FC U Cluj-N's 曾钢宁 ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Armando Bonelli. Teleagă recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. FC U Cluj-N's Mircea Calboreanu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cesare Loreto in the 89th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Sorci Viola's Cesare Loreto got a free kick in the 91st minute. In the 92ndth minute of the game Ivan Florescu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sorci Viola's Armando Bonelli was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Beppe Zoff scored 1-3 in the 94th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mircea Calboreanu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The FC U Cluj-N supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing FC U Cluj-N would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
