In the 81st minute Elvio Checa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ubaldo Matildo Abbondanzieri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saul Baumer in the 86th minute of play.
