Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ignacio Berenguer in the 21st minute of play forced Minho FC's goalkeeper Zeferino Diegues to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Cristopher de Alcântara came free, but Teodosio Sergi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Augusto Cordario in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Zeferino Diegues saved Minho FC from getting behind. Zeferino Diegues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augusto Cordario in the 37th minute of play. Minho FC's Zeferino Diegues played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Augusto Cordario in the 40th minute of play. 42 minutes into the game, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zeferino Diegues made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Olliver Van Meirhaeghe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half Velez Sarsfield were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cristopher de Alcântara was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, Augusto Cordario managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Velez Sarsfield's supporters crossed their fingers, but Augusto Cordario was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Yu Ran Zhen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 61 minutes, Maicon Azevedo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Minho FC and the Velez Sarsfield players grew even worse after the yellow card. 65 minutes had been played when some careless play by Velez Sarsfield's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Demetrio Savini was slow to take the kick. During this time Minho FC's players had a chance to rest. Alberto Paez made a great header on Minho FC's corner, it was just that Velez Sarsfield's Teodosio Sergi managed to reach the ball for a save. 67 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zeferino Diegues narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Minho FC made a substitution. Noel Dantas replaced Demetrio Savini. Minho FC's Cláudio Santiago was substituted for Ivo Mourato. Velez Sarsfield were awarded a corner in the 70th minute after Minho FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ignacio Berenguer took the corner. Velez Sarsfield's Ignacio Berenguer was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Zeferino Diegues in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Velez Sarsfield were awarded a corner in the 73th minute after Minho FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Augusto Cordario took the corner. Zeferino Diegues showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augusto Cordario in the 75th minute of the match. In the 77th minute, Antero Mendes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Minho FC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Antero Mendes hit a great ball. A hard shot by Filomeno Montrell from long distance, 79 minutes into the match, got Zeferino Diegues's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 80th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mart Laar to maneuver through the defense. Teodosio Sergi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristopher de Alcântara in the 85th minute of play. Ando Averin charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ando Averin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Minho FC's Zeferino Diegues proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to save Minho FC from getting a goal against them.
